Every version of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that powers an electric powertrain. A plug-in hybrid charging system also allows you to operate the Wrangler 4xe for about 22 miles in an all-electric mode. The system delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, good enough to tow a maximum of 3,500 lbs. You can expect 52 mpge city and 45 mpge highway in all-electric operation. That drops to 20 mpg when the Jeep Wrangler 4xe goes into gas-only mode.
The Wrangler 4xe uses a body-on-frame design that's decidedly good for off-road driving. It has a base ground clearance of 10.1 inches, and you also can get a lifted version that clears 10.8 inches. The Wrangler 4xe has one of the most aggressive approach angles around at 42.2 degrees. Locking differentials are also available, and you can get the Wrangler 4xe with a Class II receiver hitch. Dana axles are optional, too.
The Jeep Wrangler design is iconic, and the 4xe variant sticks to the winning plan. Wide fender flares and a boxy body are the defining exterior design notes. Some versions of the Wrangler 4xe also allow you to remove some of the exterior panels for open-air driving. The front end of the Wrangler 4xe features Jeep's iconic slotted grille and round headlamps, too. Unlike the gas-only Wrangler, the 4xe only comes in a four-door design.
Sporting a two-row seating system, the Wrangler 4xe accommodates as many as five people. It features almost 28 feet of rear cargo room, too. Bucket-style seats provided plenty of padding for those adventures on rough trails. The straight-line design of the dashboard maximizes available legroom, too.
All trims come with a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a seven-inch digital instrument panel. Support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard. You also can purchase the Wrangler 4xe with a premium Alpine audio system that features nine speakers, a subwoofer and a peak output of more than 550 watts. A one-touch powered roof is also optionally available. Off-road drivers will want to purchase the trim with a forward-facing camera that provides better awareness of potential hazards ahead.
Jeep offers blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and rear cross-traffic warnings for the Wrangler 4xe. Rear parking sensors are also available. Front side-mounted airbags are included in all versions. Adaptive cruise control is standard.
The Sport S trim is the entry-level option. It includes every standard feature, 20-inch wheels, heated side mirrors and dual climate zones. The Willys is the first upgrade, adding rock rails, all-terrain tires, locking differentials and a Class II hitch. The Sahara trim includes heated seats, keyless entry and a heated steering wheel.
Folks who want a more aggressive off-road experience should check out the Rubicon trim. It adds a full-float solid rear axle, front sway bar disconnect, Rock-Trac transfer case, rock rails and Tru-Lok front and rear differentials. The Rubicon X includes steel bumpers, navigation and a front groundview camera. Your top comfort option is the High Altitude. It has Nappa leather upholstery, a power roof and a premium audio system.
